Why I built Windom

I was in Philadelphia in 2022 when UNC played Saint Peter's in the Elite Eight.
UNC won by 20 and advanced to the Final Four. Our starting small forward, Leaky Black, played what I thought was a nearly perfect game. He defended, moved the ball, protected the rim, and did all the little things that help a team win.
As a UNC fan, I was incredibly proud of him.
The guy sitting in front of me was miserable.
He had a large bet on Leaky to score more than five and a half points. It was the only thing he cheered for all night. While the building celebrated, he was furious at a player who had done exactly what his team needed him to do.
If I'm being honest, I recognized a smaller version of that fan in myself. Fantasy football had me cheering for sacks so my wide receiver might get a third-and-long target. I rooted for meaningless garbage-time possessions. I even won matchups because someone else's star player got hurt.
Fantasy sports and sports pools were supposed to make sports more fun. Too often, they teach us to root for things that have very little to do with winning the actual game.
And the industry keeps moving further in that direction. We now live in a world of daily fantasy, player props, and prediction markets where you can bet on almost anything that happens during a game.
These are enormously successful products, and many are built exceptionally well. They are just built for something other than making us better fans.
So I decided to build something different: a place where being a fantasy player and being a good fan mean rooting for the same thing.
That is why I started Windom Sports.
Windom is built around six ideas:
Own what matters
You draft the actual competitor. In team sports, that means the team. In individual sports like golf and tennis, it means the athlete. Never a stat line, never a fraction of someone's afternoon.
Root for what matters
Scoring makes you care about the same thing the teams and athletes care about. When they win, you win.
Every sport deserves a great game
Every sport gets formats and scoring designed around how that sport actually works, not one template stretched to fit them all.
The options are endless
Whatever the game, we can build it. Simple draft-and-forget leagues, deeply strategic formats, wild multi-sport competitions, and the ones nobody has invented yet.
Built for 2026 and beyond
Windom is a flexible platform built for the web, mobile, email, AI, and whatever comes next. Our goal isn't eyes on the app. It's giving you an amazing league, even if all you do is read your email.
Built for the fans
Our north star is building leagues people love, not funneling you into some other product. The best ideas come from you, so if you have a league you want us to build, tell us and we'll do our best.
Those six ideas will guide every game we build and every major decision we make.
